Researchers are tackling epigenetics, the field that studies causes of aging, cancer, neurodegeneration and other health problems.
More specifically, they are looking at epigenetic changes -– modifications to DNA that regulate whether genes are turned “on or off” and their production of proteins.
If they can determine the role of epigenetic changes, they might be able to make adjustments to successfully deal with major health problems.
Making progress?
They are making headway in several areas, according to ScienceDirect, a database platform. It says the “longevity industry” is growing along with interest in the potential of epigenetics.
One potential treatment for cancer is “targeted methylation sequencing.” It detects abnormal patterns often involved in cancer development.
Another tool is “histone modification,” which may help diagnose cancer and predict outcomes.
